“Forgiven and Forgotten”

I love the story of the bishop who was a confessor for a nun. One day the nun told him that Jesus Christ had revealed himself to her, -- in person! Well, the bishop understandably had doubts about her vision, and so, he said to her, “I want to give you a couple of instructions. The next time that Jesus Christ appears to you, I want you to ask him about the sins of the archbishop.” I supposed the bishop was figuring, “What have I got to lose? If she can’t do it, I am right back where I started, but if she can tell me, imagine the leverage I will have in knowing the secret sins of the archbishop.”
The next week, in a period of confession, the bishop said to the nun, “Did you ask Jesus about the sins of the archbishop” She said, “Yes, I did.” He asked, “Well, what did Jesus say?” And the nun answered, “He said, ‘I’ve forgotten.’”
As we leave the month of April in which we remember the cross and celebrate Christ’s resurrection, be sure that April doesn’t leave you. Hear the good news! The living sacrifice of Jesus Christ has wiped the slate clean. In fact, I prefer to think of it in terms that the slate has been smashed, and there is no more slate to even wipe clean. God has forgiven your sins on the cross.
Hebrews 10:17 says, “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” And so, remember God’s word as He is saying to you and me, “Please, please, remember your forgiveness! But, I will forget your sin!” My friends, we are free! This is for real. It is secure. It is ours. It is forever!
