Friday, May 21 - Devotional from Pastor John Hartman

From the Pastor
As a family of faith at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, we seek to glorify and enjoy God together.  Our desire is to be a church that welcomes all those who seek God and the message of love which Jesus Christ brings to us, as we continue to live out our mission statement of being “Planted in Christ, Growing in Grace, and Feeding the World.” And as God has accepted us in Christ, so we seek to accept one another, -- in certainty and doubt, in weakness and in strength, with sincerity and humor.
Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church continues to make every effort to mitigate the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 virus to the church community, while living out our faith in real and practical ways.  Our responsibility is to help provide an environment which allows for resuming our normal church activities, as much as possible, while keeping the risk of any further transmission low.
Due to the latest recommendations passed down on May 14, 202, from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the session has approved the following.
“Effective immediately, the session of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church recognizes that fully vaccinated people are now able to worship in person and attend other church events without masks.  The session also encourages those who are not vaccinated to continue to follow current CDC guidelines.”
I have also come to the conclusion that whatever we do will not please everyone. It is going to be near impossible to get a 100% approval rating on this matter. These are challenging times, and the issues are complicated, and knowing what is right isn’t always clear, especially when there is a wide range of views and perspectives on the virus, and responding to it as a church. My call is to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, and to shepherd you in the way that I believe God desires is best. We have worked so hard this past year to stay connected, and offer ministries in a variety of ways.
Beginning Sunday, June 13, we will once again be worshipping outdoors (weather permitting) at 8:00 am on the FLC lawn.
We have come so far, and really too far to have this issue be a source of strife at CLPC, as we have way too many other important things to work on in building God’s kingdom. May God bless you, and may God continue to bless Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church.
Pastor John
Quote of the Week
“Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”  Genesis 28:15
The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. In Judeo-Christian traditions it is viewed as an account of the creation of the world, the early history of humanity, Israel's ancestors, and the origins of the Jewish people. Its Hebrew name is the same as its first word, Bereshit.
