Ash Wednesday Service, March 6 at 6:30 P.M. - Church Sanctuary

Ash Wednesday Service, March 2 at 6:30 PM

Please join us as we begin the season of Lent with our Ash Wednesday worship service (in the church sanctuary), which will also include prayers, scripture readings, a brief message, hymns, music, and the imposition of the ashes. The ashes placed on the forehead (or the back of the hand) is a sign of our humanity and a reminder of our mortality. The ashes we wear as we begin our Lenten journey symbolize the dust and broken debris of our lives, as well as an acknowledgement of our need to repent. Trusting in the power of Christ’s resurrection, we listen for the Word of God in the time-honored stories of the church’s Lenten journey. We follow Jesus into the wilderness, watch him resist temptation, fast, and proceed “on the way” to Jerusalem and the cross. Our Lenten journey is one turning around, and changing directions, -- from selfishness to the self-giving way of the cross.
